Notifications — Studio
Sync Labs Studio can send you a browser notification the moment a generation finishes, so you can move on to something else and get pulled back when your result is ready — even after you close the Studio tab. This page covers those browser notifications (also called web push, push notifications, or desktop notifications) as a personal Studio preference: how to turn on notifications, what a generation ready or finished notification does, and how to turn them off. It does not cover the API webhook path for programmatic status updates — for that, see the Webhooks guide.
If notifications are available in your Studio, the Settings preference is personal and account-wide: it belongs to you and applies across every browser you use, and every organization member manages their own, not only admins. Turning it on or off there affects all your browsers at once and never touches your teammates’. Whether a given browser actually shows notifications also depends on enabling it in that browser.
Before you start
Make sure you have a supported, up-to-date browser that supports web notifications, opened over a secure (https) connection. On desktop, Chrome, Edge, and Firefox all work. On Android, the supported browsers also work. For the full list, see Web Browser Support.
On iOS and iPadOS, notifications work only when you add Sync to your Home Screen, open it as an installed web app, and grant permission from that installed app. A regular Safari tab cannot receive notifications.
Turn on notifications
You can turn on notifications from the generation view or from Settings. Receiving them takes two things: the account-wide preference turned on in Settings, and the browser you’re using enabled with browser permission granted. For the current browser, Settings shows Enabled in this browser, offers Enable in this browser, or shows Blocked in this browser. When your current browser can’t receive notifications — because it doesn’t support them, or because you’re on iPhone or iPad and haven’t added Sync to your Home Screen yet — you can’t turn them on there: the Notifications toggle is disabled. If you’ve already turned notifications on, the toggle stays available so you can still turn them off in that browser, and Settings marks notifications as unavailable there. The generation keeps running either way, so granting or denying the browser permission does not change what happens to it.

What you’ll see
When a generation finishes with a usable result, Studio notifies you that your result is ready. When a generation fails or is rejected, Studio notifies you that it could not be completed. Selecting a notification opens that generation’s result, focusing the Studio view if it’s already open rather than replacing another open draft.
Dismiss the notification option
You can dismiss the notification option on the generation’s progress toast. Dismissing it closes the whole toast — the notification option and the progress message together. It does not cancel the generation, which keeps running in the background. Dismissing it does not turn your account preference off — that stays on. Dismissal is remembered per user, per browser, so you won’t see the notification option again on this or later generations in this browser. If you don’t act within about 10 seconds, the whole toast, including the progress confirmation, closes on its own. This isn’t treated as a dismissal, so you’ll still see the option on your next generation in this browser. The option also goes away once you turn on notifications, or if your browser has blocked notification permission. After dismissing it, you can still turn notifications on from Settings → General.
If notifications are blocked
If your browser has blocked notification permission for Sync, the generation’s progress toast appears without the notification option. Unblock Sync in your browser settings. On iOS and iPadOS, unblock it in device Settings → Notifications → Sync instead. Then retry from the Notifications toggle in Settings → General, without reloading the page.
Turn off notifications
To stop receiving notifications, open Settings → General and turn off the Notifications toggle. Because this preference is account-wide, turning it off stops notifications across all your browsers at once. It keeps each browser’s existing permission, so turning it back on later does not require granting browser permission again.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to keep the Studio tab open?
No. Once notifications are on, you are notified when your generation finishes even after you close the tab.
Does turning notifications off cancel a generation?
No. A generation keeps running whether notifications are on or off — see Turn on notifications.
Does enabling notifications on one browser enable them on another?
The Settings preference is account-wide, so turning it on or off applies to all your browsers at once. Each browser still needs to be enabled and granted browser permission before it shows notifications.
Why don't I get notifications on my iPhone?
Notifications on iPhone and iPad require adding Sync to your Home Screen and opening it as an installed app — see Before you start.
